Look, say, cover, write, check makes the child recall the word instead of copying it letter by letter. Missing letters focuses attention on the tricky part of the word (the “ie” in believe, the double letters). Unscrambling and ABC order build letter awareness, and writing a sentence ties the spelling to the meaning. Spaced practice across the week beats one long session the night before.
